Description
Inspired by the neighborly spirit of old-time Nebraska barn raisings, this rustic split pea soup is the kind of meal that brings folks together around the table.
Premium green split peas, dried carrots and savory herbs make a pantry-friendly mix — just add broth and simmer into a thick, comforting homemade soup.
What's Inside
- Split pea, carrot, onion, celery, leek, parsley, thyme, basil, bay leaf
How to Make It
- Sort the split peas and rinse thoroughly.
- Cut bacon into ½-inch pieces and sauté about 10 minutes in a 4-quart pot until crisp (or use a ham bone).
- Add the vegetable & seasoning packet, split peas and broth.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered 2½–3 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Cool slightly, or continue simmering uncovered to thicken.
- Add sherry if desired and season with salt and pepper.
